Lesson Introduction (Hook/Access Prior Knowledge)
Students will be asked two questions to introduce them to the lesson's content. Students will be asked the following questions:
On what earlier civilization was much of the Roman art and architecture based?
Why did the Romans base so much of their culture on the example of the Greeks?
Students will address the questions during class discussion. Teacher will follow up with students answer to fill in any gaps that students may have left out. Students will also see pictures of Roman and Greek architecture to demonstrate their similarities.

Vocabulary (Content Language Development)
Students will be required to complete the vocabulary worksheet. Students will be paired in groups. Students with special needs will be given a vocabulary list with the definitions. The vocabulary terms will help students comprehend the content that will be presented. Students will need to define the following terms:

Content Delivery (Method of Instruction)
The group project will be introduced by a quick lecture describing Rome's lasting achievements. This lesson will require students to complete a group project. The group project will be about key achievements of the Roman's. Students will create a poster describing the Roman achievement and why it was important. Students will also address if the achievement continues to have an impact. Students will present their poster to the class. Students will be grouped in three's.
In order for students to grasp what is expected of them. Teacher will, through a short sliderocket presentation, list key achievements that the Roman's made on society. The presentation will list where the achievements can be found within their textbook. The presentation will also have pictures representing the achievements.

Student Engagement & Critical Thinking
Students will be required to create a poster about one Roman achievement. Students will work in groups of 3. Each group member must contribute to the poster. Students will need to address and label the achievement they will be discussing about. Students will address why the achievement was important. Students will also address if the achievement continues to have an impact on society. Students will need to incorporate pictures into their poster. Teacher will provide an example of a poster for students to see. Students will be assessed based on a scoring guide.

Demonstrated Learning (Formative Assessment)
Students will demonstrate their understanding of the content based on students presentation. Presentations will be graded based on Rubric found under student engagements. Students will be assessed based on the content they used, if questions were addressed within their poster and group collaboration. As students present in class, teacher will assess if all requirements were met and check for content comprehension.
Lesson Closure
At the end of all presentations, which will last two days, teacher will wrap up the lesson by reviewing the achievements of the Roman's. Teacher will emphasis Rome's lasting contributions to society and how certain achievements continue to live on in today's world. Students will reflect on all the content that was presented by their peers. Students will be given time to discuss what they learned.
Accommodations
English Language Learners
Accommodations for EL's will be made by placing EL's with students that are bilingual and are proficient in English. This will help the EL's to understand what is expected from them and will help them acquire the necessary content to fulfill the lesson's objective of understanding Roman achievements.
Struggling Readers
Accommodations for struggling readers were presented a short presentation through slide rocket that was read out to the class. The presentation gave struggling readers a look at Roman achievements and where they could be found within the textbook. A few questions were asked within the presentation in order to direct students to what they needed to look for. Additionally, struggling readers will be grouped with students that are proficient in reading and work well with others.
